Our latest version of the 42-15142-P benefits from a complete overhaul of our A-2s that we’ve just completed after months of sampling and checking of even the tiniest of details
Our latest incarnation is cut from the original WW2 patterns made by Aero Leather Clothing of Beacon NY. Although these have been in daily use since we began making A-2, during the 30 years or so minor various have occurred, wear and tear has taken it’s toll and some patterns were straying off the original patterns. We realised this when we recently came across some of the original old paper patterns taken from dismantled WW2 jackets now these have been checked across the whole size spectrum. We’ve also checked gaps in our original WW2 paper archive patterns by dismantling a few wrecked original jackets and taking exact patterns from these, bottom line, and checking the entire grading from 34″ to 52″, we can guarantee that our current 42-15142-P fits identically to the equivalent WW2 issue jacket,
Styling, detailing, stitch pattern and label are facsimiles of the original Aero Leather Clothing, Beacon, NY Contract 42-15142-P. This Type A-2 is fitted as standard with a high grade Japanese made WW2 replica Talon zipper, a zipper identical in even the tiniest detail to the original WW2 Talon.
For authenticity, we recommend this jacket in our Jerky Horsehide, a leather developed especially for Aero to replica the tanning processes and to give the general appearance of WW2 A-2 jackets better than any other WW2 era jackets that we’ve seen and is the closest to the original contract. However, there is no other leather we know that can develop such a natural, realistic appearance of an original WW2 jacket in such a short period of time as the OIl Pull Horsehide
The first few jackets from these revised pattern have been made in our vintage “Oil Pull Up” Horsehide, a leather stuffed with natural oils and waxes during the tanning process before being sealed under a clear top finish which lets all the character of the hide show through whilst allowing subtle natural variations in shade to develop as the jacket moulds to the wearers figure. The “Natural” way to a vintage Horsehide A2, these A2s is going to look magnificent in a year or two’s time, we can tell that from seeing old A2s made in the early 90’s in the Oil Pull Steerhide, we’ve never had one of these back as a trade in!
You will note this jacket appears duller than in the close up shot. That is the nature of the beast, all Aniline type finishes vary from hide to hide, what we are showing is probably the two extremes of shininess and dullness, although, with wear, all these jackets eventually wear to a flatter duller finish with masses of stunning patina and deep shading over the years.
